Although low blood pressure is not a risk to an individual’s life, low blood pressure does affect one’s quality of life. Rosemary has been studied for its role in improving low blood pressure and regulating the circulatory system. Rosemary Oil Improves Low Blood Pressure.
What is Low Blood Pressure
Heart doctors have advocated for patients to lower their blood pressure. In fact, the blood pressure guidelines have just been updated in the past year. However, sometimes a person’s blood pressure can get too low. Although low blood pressure is not normally fatal, it can severely decrease a person’s quality of life.
The majority of the time, low blood pressure is secondary to some other disorder. It is hard to define “low blood pressure” because we are all individuals. For example, athletic and fit people can have a blood pressure of 90/60 and feel perfectly fine. Another person can have a blood pressure of 90/60 and feel like they are about to pass out. Rosemary oil seems to have regulate the blood pressure.

Rosemary Oil Improves Low Blood Pressure
Rosemary has been proven in research trials to help improve low blood pressure especially when the cause is unknown.
During this study, while the people were treated with Rosemary essential oil, the blood pressure improved. After treatment was completed with Rosemary oil, the blood pressure quickly dropped back down to low blood pressure levels.
It was found in the study that Rosemary oil has the ability to increase the blood pressure without affecting the heart rate.
Rosemary is a natural antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.
Rosemary Oil and Heart Attack
Heart attack or myocardial infarction is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. In fact, it is estimated that over 650,000 Americans have a heart attack each year.
When someone has a heart attack, the muscle of the heart dies. When the muscle dies, the heart muscle cannot function properly. As a result, the heart has poor tissue perfusion.
When the cardiac cells die, you will have inflammation and oxidative stress. Also, there is excess deposition of collagen. As a result, the heart will go through cardiac remodeling. Basically, remodeling means that the heart “is out of shape”.
This is where rosemary oil comes into play.
Dosage for Rosemary Oil
The dose used for Rosemary in the study was 110 mg or 0.2% concentration.
Side Effects and Contraindications for Rosemary
There has been no research done on pregnant women who consume Rosemary. Therefore, Rosemary should not be consumed by pregnant women. It is also contraindicated in gallbladder diseases and any other bile duct diseases.
